This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Consortium for Defense Psychology (CDP), which is based in Bethesda, MD. The Military Behavioral Health Psychologist will assist with activities related to CDP’s mission, which is to lead the development of a community of military culturally mindful and clinically competent providers through the delivery of high-quality training and education, the convening of experts, and the dissemination of research-based treatment and the latest topics in military behavioral health. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation provides administrative and management support to the Consortium. CDP strives to be the central hub for the Military Health System (MHS) in the development and implementation of training and education to clinicians in order to ensure that all service members, veterans, and their families receive quality behavioral healthcare that meets their unique needs. 

Responsibilities:

• Serves as an evidence-based psychotherapy (EBP) subject matter expert for the Training and Operations (TAO) project and across the Consortium, contributing where needed. 
• Develops and delivers presentations, workshops, and other curriculum-based learning tools in online and in-person delivery formats, to include presenting multi-day, EBP workshops. A main area of focus will be the behavioral health needs in operational and deployed military settings.
• Creates and provides consultation services to military and civilian behavioral health providers trained by CDP to provide continued learning support and ensure evidence-based psychotherapy practices are being used with fidelity. 
• Ensures that workshops and consultation materials are updated regularly by performing frequent literature reviews on evidence-based psychology practices, telehealth, and consultation with national subject matter experts. Makes necessary changes, additions, and updates to educational materials as needed. Coordinates with military and civilian experts to organize education materials.
• Serves as an active member and/or lead on Consortium-level special interest groups and assists with projects/programs.
• Contributes to CDP’s subject matter expert blog posts, podcasts, videos, infographics, asynchronous training materials, and other additional educational activities as needed.
• Prepares scholarly manuscripts for publication and presents at national and/or international conferences to disseminate the work conducted by the Consortium.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attending and participating in required training for the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced in at least one of the following areas/protocols: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Circadian Rhythm Sleep Wake Disorders, Unified Protocol, Written Exposure Therapy, or Trauma-informed care.
• Active licensure.
• Candidates should be knowledgeable about the behavioral health needs of military personnel, including challenges faced in operational and deployed settings.
• Candidates should have experience delivering professional presentations to adult learners including experience with curriculum development of presentations and other materials for adult continuing education.
• Subject matter expertise in EBPs, including the ability to integrate the best available research with clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture, and preferences, such that the candidate is able to provide training and consultation that is empirically sound as well as culturally competent, inclusive, and accessible across a wide variety of contexts.

The position will serve as the project lead and subject matter expert for developing and implementing an SBHP Center Designation Pilot in one state to recognize public-serving community Mental health clinics that meet established criteria for providing high-quality, military-informed care with low- or no-cost services. The pilot will establish a foundational SBHP center designation framework for future expansion to other states. These activities will require collaborating closely with key stakeholders and partners to support the pilot development and implementation.  This position will also serve as the project lead and subject matter expert for implementing SBHP website-related enhancements and new functionalities, such as the development of educational videos for service members that demonstrate how to use the SBHP Directory and the design and implementation of an AI Conversational Agent (chatbot) to guide military users through the SBHP Directory search process on the website to more efficiently identify well-matched therapists.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Master's Degree required in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health required, Doctoral Degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health.

• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating pilot programs and measuring program outcomes required.
• Technical knowledge and expertise in website development, digital technologies, and AI tools is preferred.

The Clinical Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Supports multiple behavioral health research studies conducted by the Consortium for Defense Psychology, including a clinical trial evaluating cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) and other ongoing research projects.
• Supports the day-to-day implementation of research protocols, including participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, scheduling, tracking, follow-up, and other study-related activities in accordance with approved protocols and study procedures.
• Conducts or assists with the informed consent process for research participants in accordance with Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved procedures and applicable human-subjects research requirements.
• Works approximately 50% of the time on site at the mental health clinic at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, supporting study implementation and coordination with clinic personnel.
• Serves as an on-site point of contact for assigned research activities and maintains regular communication with clinical staff, investigators, research coordinators, and other study personnel to facilitate study operations.
• Develops and maintains effective working relationships with clinic leadership and staff and coordinates study activities to minimize disruption to routine clinical operations.
• Assists with identification and recruitment of potentially eligible participants using IRB-approved recruitment procedures and materials.
• Collects, enters, organizes, tracks, and performs quality-control review of research data and maintains study databases, participant tracking systems, and research records.
• Maintains accurate and complete study documentation, including participant records, regulatory documentation, recruitment and enrollment records, and other study materials as required.
• Assists investigators and research staff with monitoring recruitment, enrollment, retention, data completeness, and other study milestones and identifies operational issues requiring attention.
